A Nebraska-licensed psychologist, Dr. Gail Lockard has had a private counseling practice for over three decades. Initially trained as a social worker, Gail’s early work experience was with adults and seniors in inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. Throughout her professional career, her roles within private, non-profit, and public organizations have included psychotherapist, consultant, and trainer. Employed at UNL’s Health Center for over 20 years, Gail supervised psychology graduate students-in-training and provided individual and relationship counseling/psychotherapy to the university student population.
Over the years, Gail has been privileged to meet and work with many individuals all of whom have their unique stories and life experiences. While their situations may be extremely challenging and stressful, individuals and couples who utilize counseling to face their circumstances, grow through increased self-awareness, develop more meaningful relationships, and successfully manage debilitating issues to become more resilient, confident, and loving. Through their own efforts with support, these individuals build upon their personal strengths and increase their repertoire of life skills.
Gail connects some of her sensibilities and appreciation for diversity to having grown up on a Nebraska farm. Continuing to enjoy the benefits of both urban and rural living, she is currently part of a small certified organic farm operation in south-central Nebraska. When not in her office or on her farm, Gail enjoys reading—while constantly trying to prevent the tall stack of accumulating reading material from toppling over on her. In her “spare” time, she visits her cherished daughter and family, experiments with gardening, explores back roads of Nebraska or anywhere USA, regularly lipsyncs as part of her church’s praise team, makes a stab at playing the piano, laughs at herself (because of the subject matter), and remains curious about most everything.
